Standards and grades of engine oil
Currently, there are three internationally accepted engine oil standards: the API standard formulated by the American Petroleum Institute, the ACEA standard of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, and the GF standard jointly established by the United States and Japan. Among these three standards, the API standard is the most common and has the highest level of support. The vast majority of engine oil manufacturers in the world comply with the API standard, so it has become the recognized most authoritative engine oil standard.
